PLAYGROUND CHIPS

Regular Playground Chips We take our Standard Arbor Chips that come in during the winter months (when there are no leaves on the trees) and grind them to a smaller consistent chip. THESE CHIPS ARE OUR #1 SELLER because they are easy to spread and can be used around shrubs, flowers, and in play areas.

Dark Playground Chips These are last year’s chips, that have set for approximately one year, with leaves mixed in which gives them a darker color. We then grind the chips & leaves to make a consistent and smaller chip. The leaves in this mulch product provide natures natural nutrients when applied around plants and on the soil.
Recommended Uses
It may be up to you to see that your neighborhood and school playgrounds are checked for safety. You can check the depth of playground surface by digging with a hand trowel and request that it be topped off if it is too low (9-12″ for elementary schools, 6-9″ for toddlers).
Contact your principal or school board administrator if the surface is low. If it is a neighborhood, make sure they are budgeting for the replenishment of “fall zone materials,” “dark playground wood chips,” “playground wood chips,” “dark shredded playground or hardwood mulch,” or whatever name they use for surface material meant to protect your children when they fall.
LANDSCAPING MATERIALS

Western Blend Mulch This blend was created for Western Michigan University to give the landscape a fresh look with pine aroma. We use freshly shredded logs and pine chips to create a mulch that resembles cedar mulch but made with recycled tree products from our local area. This mulch is used around trees, shrubs and landscaping beds. This is the best product we have for hills and wash areas because the texture of the material holds together better than our other products.

Dark Double Ground Chips Standard playground and dark playground chips processed one more time to make them smaller and finer in texture. Most common uses are around flowers and in landscaping beds.
Recommended Uses
Wood that is to be recycled is sent into the tub grinder and the shredded material is put into a static pile. The Dark Double Ground, playground and Western Blend are used as top dressing in planting beds and around trees. It regulates soil temperature and moisture, which provides root system protection, weed control, and adds organic material to the soil mix as it decomposes.
The “Western Blend” mulch is specially blended for Western Michigan University use on the campus grounds. Our late founder, David Handley, is an alumni of WMU and his “Western Blend” is his contribution to his alma mater.
